Select Board approves two water plant change orders totaling $48,581

PLAINVILLE — March 10, 2026 — Plainville Select Board unanimously approved $48,581 in water treatment plant change orders at its March 10 meeting. The board approved Change Order 7 for $18,011.34, covering the upsizing of a pressure reducing valve in the PRV vault from six inches to eight inches and extending the precast vault from 8 feet to 11 feet to handle projected demand growth, including a new town well expected to come online. A project engineer told the board that deferring the same upgrade 10 years would cost "70, 80 grand." Change Order 8, totaling $30,570.21, adds one 8-inch and one 12-inch insertion valve at the chlorine contact tank — a recommendation from the town's water department designed to allow critical construction connections without taking the tank fully offline and triggering a MassDEP bacteriological clearance process.
