STOUGHTON — April 9, 2026 — Stoughton Planning Board continues elementary school review and hears two senior housing pitches at April 9 session. The board unanimously continued the site plan review for the town's proposed 101,590-square-foot elementary school on DiStefano Way to April 23, with stormwater peer review by GPI still pending a clean letter and traffic review not yet complete. Roberta Habak of the Stoughton Redevelopment Authority presented a four-years-in-development concept for ADA-compliant, one-bedroom, fee-simple senior cottages on town-owned land adjacent to the Council on Aging, with board members telling her "you're almost at the finish line" pending passage of a senior housing bylaw at May town meeting. Jeff Smith of the United Group of Companies, based in Troy, New York, proposed a 150-unit, four-story 55-plus active adult rental complex at 850 Park Street, offering a $5,000-per-unit development fee totaling $750,000, but board members pushed back sharply on the density of roughly 25 units per acre and directed the developer to make a formal presentation to the full Select Board before any overlay district process begins.
