Weymouth Conservation Commission approves nine permits at June 30 meeting

WEYMOUTH — June 30, 2026 — Weymouth Conservation Commission clears nine permits in a single June 30 session, headlined by a long-awaited order of conditions for a 500-foot Main Street sewer replacement through an active red maple swamp. Ryan Allgrove of Apex Engineers, representing the Department of Public Works, told the commission the project — the unfinished remnant of a 2022 sewer upgrade near Shea Drive on Route 18 — will require a multi-week temporary access road through wetlands, dewatering from groundwater five feet below grade, and removal of roughly 300 cubic yards of material, with wetland restoration planting monitored for two years. Commission staff recommended a weekly on-site wetland scientist and an as-built survey before the contractor demobilizes, "to ensure you've restored the grades to pre-existing." In other action, the board approved a negative 2 determination for 60 David's Island Road over the objection of a neighbor who presented a same-day arborist report warning that planned excavation falls within the critical root zones of a large oak and a hickory; the applicant agreed to adjust work if significant roots are encountered. The commission also approved a negative 3 determination for a foundation at 0 Green Street, lot 3 of a seven-lot subdivision, with a board member successfully pushing for a deed covenant to preserve tree cover after citing a prior case where an owner cleared trees despite agreeing not to.
