Conservation Board Orders New Wetland Plan for Water Project
Conservation Commission · Meeting of September 24, 2026
Cohasset conservation board stalls water plant's wetland redesign after muting a water commissioner mid-statement. Acting Chair Tom Bell cut off Water Commission Vice Chair Chris Pratt for exceeding the three-minute comment limit during debate over a Lily Pond Water Treatment Plant lagoon rebuild that would disturb 1,635 square feet of wetland, above the town's 1,000-square-foot threshold. Commissioner Sanji Fernando told engineers the fix was simple: "what you're displacing, what you're disturbing, times two." The hearing was continued to October 22 with no vote taken.
Elsewhere, commissioners approved five other projects unanimously, including a 99 Border Street porch roof (4-0-0), a 130 Beach Street dock requiring pile-supported float stops per state guidance (5-0-0), and a rebuild of the Cohasset Yacht Club's 1947 marine railway (4-0-0). Water Commission representatives said demand already exceeds residuals capacity by 23 percent.
