Brookline Adopts Climate Action Plan Targeting Net-Zero Emissions by 2050
The town has formally adopted a sweeping Climate Action and Resiliency Plan that charts a path to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the most consequential policy development visible across sources for July 6.

Brookline's newly adopted 2026 Climate Action and Resiliency Plan lays out a comprehensive 10-year strategy toward net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The plan, posted prominently on the town's homepage under latest news, is a multi-sector commitment that will influence capital investment, permitting, building policy, and town operations for the coming decade.
Residents with real estate or personal property should note that tax bills mailed June 30 carry a due date of Monday, Aug. 3, 2026. Late payments may be subject to penalties.

The Brookline Public Library is marking summer reading with a pair of drop-in programs at Putterham today, July 6. Visitors can stop by near the front desk to make buttons in honor of Shark Week, and butterfly expert Jerry Schneider of Vermont is on hand to teach residents about local species before leading a butterfly-themed T-shirt craft — all T-shirts provided.
Looking ahead to next week, the library will screen the 2016 film Moonlight for free on Thursday, July 9, in partnership with the Coolidge Corner Theatre, closing out its Pride season programming. The library is also hosting a Summer Reading Plant Swap on Sunday, July 12, with soil and compostable pots available for participants.
