Groton Conservation Commission Fines 60 Valley Road Owner for Unpermitted Wetland Work

MILTON — June 9, 2026 — Groton Conservation Commission fines wetland violator $50 and demands new permit filing before its June 23 meeting. The commission voted 4-0-1 to fine property owner Breno Candido of 60 Valley Road for constructing two stone pillars within the 50-foot wetland buffer without a permit, telling his representative that "a series of mistakes" amounted to "pretty much disregard for the Wetlands Protection Act." The board also unanimously issued orders of conditions under both state law and the town bylaw for the long-pending Squanacook River Dam repair at 8 West Main Street, where engineer Dennis Bell of Haley and Aldrich described a multi-year permitting process that now includes a matching order from the neighboring town of Shirley.
