Norwood School Committee Seats Two New Members, Votes on Policies and Job Descriptions
NORWOOD — April 8, 2026 — Norwood School Committee seats two new members and votes unanimously on job descriptions, student policies, and a $5,000 school donation at its April 8 meeting. Chair Hilts welcomed Ben Moser and Michael Schengling following Monday's election, calling it the first two-seat turnover in several cycles and noting that 40 percent of the five-member board has changed. Facilities Director Christopher Fallon disclosed a groundwater-related sinkhole on the south end of the Coakley Middle School turf field that will delay the field's opening at least one to two weeks, telling the committee, "It's got to be right — we cannot open that up again." The Finance Committee has unanimously approved the district's FY27 budget request, with public information sessions set for May 4 and Town Meeting beginning May 14; a warrant article for a joint town-school facility study is estimated at roughly $300,000 and awaits a Select Board vote on April 14. The committee voted 5-0 to approve a substantially revised student medication administration policy aligned with updated state law, and to advance new harassment and student technology policies to a two-week public comment period.
