Westwood Planning Board Approves Canton Street Tree Removal, Delays Child Care Facility Vote

WESTWOOD — June 2, 2026 — Westwood Planning Board unanimously clears four dead trees from Canton Street and pushes child care facility decision to July. Meeting jointly with the Westwood Tree Warden on June 2, the board approved scenic road removal of four dead or dying trees at 504 Canton Street, finding them a public hazard. The board then continued — for the second time, from an original April 21 opening — a public hearing on Foresight Child Care Facility's application for change-of-use approval and multiple waivers at 260 Washington Street. The applicant is seeking relief from the board's parking design standards, per-employee and per-classroom parking space requirements, and screening mandates for trash areas and parking lots abutting neighboring properties. Chair Ellen Rawlings said the board "offered detailed feedback to the applicant" before voting to continue the hearing to July 28, 2026.
