Plainville Select Board Approves Easement Order for Messenger-Taunton Intersection Project

PLAINVILLE — July 16, 2026 — Plainville Select Board unanimously approves easement order for Messenger-Taunton intersection widening. The board executed the order of taking Thursday covering 14 temporary construction easements and 10 permanent easements tied to a planned widening of the Messenger Street and Taunton Street intersection at Routes 106 and 152. Compensation values, drawn from formal appraisals, were disclosed to property owners for the first time 30 days before the meeting. A business owner at 11 Taunton Street challenged the $47,800 offered for his property, telling the board that his real estate taxes alone over the three-year construction period would exceed $54,000 and that he stood to lose roughly 20 percent of his property — the largest share of any affected owner. One board member said before the vote that "this particular property is more penalized than any other" and that getting the compensation figure right "is about being fair to everyone in that area," though no amendment to the offer was made and the vote proceeded unanimously.
